Phosphate fertilizers
DAP — Diammonium Phosphate
(NH₄)₂HPO₄ — 18-46-0
The most traded phosphate fertilizer in the world, carrying 46 percent P₂O₅ and a useful 18 percent nitrogen. Its price is the reference against which the rest of the phosphate market is quoted.
The granule reacts alkaline as it dissolves, which briefly raises pH around it. On calcareous soils that can immobilise part of the phosphate, and MAP is the better choice; elsewhere DAP's higher nitrogen and lower cost per unit usually win.
