Nitric Acid, concentrated

HNO₃ — 98%

At 98 percent the character of the acid changes. It fumes, it oxidises powerfully, and it ignites many organic materials on contact rather than merely corroding them. It carries a subsidiary oxidising risk in transport for that reason.

It is used in nitration chemistry and in specialty manufacture where the dilute grade will not serve. Supply requires a receiving site properly equipped for it, and we confirm that before offering.

Storage and handling

  • Dedicated, vented, bunded tanks in approved material; never in shared equipment
  • Absolute segregation from organic material, alcohols, metals in powder form and reducing agents
  • Temperature-controlled, out of sunlight — decomposition is self-accelerating
  • Emergency response plan and full protective equipment mandatory at every transfer

Transport

  • ADR, RID and IMDG Class 8 with subsidiary 5.1, packing group I
  • Dedicated equipment; route and stop points planned in advance
  • DGSA oversight of the file; permits and end-use information may be required
  • Receiving site capability verified before shipment is arranged

Documents

  • Technical data sheet (TDS) — issued with the offer
  • Safety data sheet (SDS) in the languages of transit and destination
  • Certificate of analysis, lot-specific, drawn at loading
  • Certificate of origin and EUR.1 where the destination allows preference

Documents are issued against a confirmed enquiry rather than published for download — an SDS is only meaningful for the grade and revision actually shipped.
