UAN Solution
Urea ammonium nitrate — 32, 30 or 28% N
A solution of urea and ammonium nitrate in water, carrying three forms of nitrogen at once: nitrate for immediate uptake, ammonium for the following weeks, and amide behind that. Applied as a liquid, it removes spreading accuracy from the list of things that can go wrong.
The grade number is a salt-out temperature decision as much as a concentration one. UAN 32 carries the most nitrogen but crystallises at around 0 °C; 30 and 28 are the winter grades, diluted so they stay liquid in cold storage.
Specification
Technical data
- Appearance
- Clear to pale straw liquid
- Total nitrogen
- 32%, 30% or 28% as ordered
- Density at 20 °C
- ≈1.32 kg/l (UAN 32)
- Salt-out temperature
- ≈0 °C (32), ≈−10 °C (30), ≈−18 °C (28)
- pH
- 7.0–7.5
- Corrosion inhibitor
- Added on request for mild steel systems
- HS code
- 3102 80
- Transport status
- Generally not classified; corrosive to some metals
Classification, HS code and transport regime are confirmed per grade and per route at the offer stage. Figures below are indicative of the standard specification.
Packaging
- Bulk liquid in rail tank wagons
- Road tankers of about 30–33 m³
- IBC totes of 1000 l for smaller call-offs
Storage and handling
- Store above the salt-out temperature of the grade held — crystallisation is the main handling failure
- Compatible tank materials: stainless steel, polyethylene, glass-reinforced plastic
- Avoid unlined mild steel, copper, brass and zinc — corrosion and product discoloration
- Agitate or recirculate after cold storage before use
Transport
- Generally unregulated for transport; confirmed against the grade and route
- Dedicated or compatible tanks with previous cargo history documented
- Winter grades selected against the coldest point of the route, not the destination
Documents
- Technical data sheet (TDS) — issued with the offer
- Safety data sheet (SDS) in the languages of transit and destination
- Certificate of analysis, lot-specific, drawn at loading
- Certificate of origin and EUR.1 where the destination allows preference
Documents are issued against a confirmed enquiry rather than published for download — an SDS is only meaningful for the grade and revision actually shipped.
Commercial terms
How it is quoted
- Incoterms
- FCA, FOB, CIF, DAP, CPT
- Typical lot size
- From 25 t by road; 1,000 t and above by rail or vessel
- Lead time
- 2–4 weeks from contract
